International Children

Me: Savannah! It's break-up day tomorrow! Yay!

Savannah: Huh? What's that?

Me: You know, the last day of school before the holidays.

Savannah: Oh.

I am constantly reminded that my daughters are international children and don't necessarily use or even know all the lingo any South African kid would know. Bearing in mind, since 6 1/2 out of her almost 8 years of life have been spent outside of the country, we'll forgive her for this one just this once. But ask her about 'roze koekjes' or 'roostervrij' and she'll be able to tell you!
