Brussels, Belgium

This last row of pictures were taken by Savannah and Madison. Bryn and I had a 'snooze' on a park bench while they entertained themselves. It was quite funny to see what they came up with.

Brussels was fun. Just knowing we had 3 whole days of adventure and relaxation ahead of us was exciting. Finding our hotel was the first of the adventures! Why oh why can't we get a navigation system???? Ask Bryn! It would certainly remove the huge preparation stress factor before we even start the journey--first of all finding a reliable navigation website, secondly getting it printed and then sourcing all the delightful grotesque maps we own which are so akward to open out flat in a car, without getting in the way of the driver and then of course we encournter the really fun husband/wife/navigator/driver sagas! Anyway, as soon as we arrived, we headed off to the closest Irish Pub to watch South Africa play New Zealand. The pub lunch was delicious, the vibe was great and it was fun to meet fellow South Africans. Let's rather not talk about the game, okay? The rest of the afternoon was dedicated to viewing the famous flower carpet in "La Grand Place" and eating scrumptious Belgian ice-creams. We spent the remainder of our weekend taking it easy and slow paced with us nearly missing breakfast at the hotel as we only woke up at 11:15 and breakfast ends at 11! We had fun catching up on the Olympics, swimming and strolling the streets of Brussels. We bumped into Laura and Andy on Sunday afternoon! They had also come to see the flower carpet. A great weekend.

ps: the first photo brings back so many holiday memories from my childhood. I remember us girls piling into the car hours before we actually hit the road, while the parents were running around getting last minute things organised. This was a little deja vu experience for me:)

and dont forget the fighting over who gets the window seat with the pillow. i think thats why we always got in the car so early. it was to reserve our spot for the journey:)
