Spa

Magical. I was privileged to spend a weekend with some great friends in a little town in the south, French speaking part of Belgium called Spa. It's the home of Spa bottled water and is known for its Wellness Spa Centre, set way up on a hill. The views were breathtaking and the setting, gorgeous. The snowy covered tree mass you see in the above pictures formed the incredible look out view we enjoyed from the pool area. We took a little funicular up the mountain (which, by the way, was out of order most of the time, due to the snow). It's just about the only easy way to get up to the spa, walking coming in as a fun second option. We spent Friday night exploring the little town, window shopping and eating Belgian chocolate. Dinner was a real treat and then we stayed up all night and morning chatting and laughing. I was the lucky girl to get a leg wax from the talented Amy C.

As it turned out, the time we had booked to use the wellness centre, the funicular was out of order and would take 45 minutes to be repaired. We decided to take the plunge and wind our way up and around the mountain paths on foot to get us to paradise. It was snowy, slippery but just too beautiful for words. We all clung on to each other and asked many random passersby to snap some shots of 4 crazy ladies. We had a blast. We were treated to a relaxing back massage straight after a delicious French breakfast on Saturday morning, followed by what I call one of the best facials I have ever had. It was dreamy. We all took turns and then ended up in the pool for some synchronised swimming thanks to Amy D. Getting down the mountain was an adventure as yes, you guessed right, the funicular was out of order again. By this time, it was dark, slippery, slushy and cold outside and the walk down would have taken a good hour. We ditched the funicular ride down upon hearing of its availability, and hitched a ride with two old ducks who didn't understand we simply needed a ride down the mountain. They took us way further out than we had hoped, dropping us off on the wrong side of Spa so we ended up walking quite a ways back to our hotel.

It's always fantastic to get away with good friends. Life just seems easier to handle after 36 hours of crazy fun. Thanks girls. I loved it.

Back at home, things seemed to be going well. Bryn had fun, as usual, with his girls and treated them to dinner out at one of his favourite fish restaurants. Thanks my boy, I think you're the best.

For sure--there will definitely be a next time. Laura, all the best this week. Can't believe you have a week to go before your little girl arrives.
